Cute as a bug

Wednesday, June 10th 2009 @ 5:09 PM    post viewed 320 times

When was the last time you saw a bug and thought to yourself, "Dang, that bug is CUUUUTE."  Me neither.  Just hasn't happened.  But if it DID happen, I would have to use the phrase to describe our little Eve. (see attachment!)   She's the daughter of one of our graduates who recently moved back to the area and it is such a joy to be near both of them again.  Pray with us that God would continue to pour Himself into her mother's heart and remind her of how HE sees her and that she is such an amazing child of His.

School's out.  Need I say more?  The days get longer and even more challenging for the single moms with which we work.  We are truly in need of some volunteers immediately to come forward with a heart wanting to serve the Lord by providing a ride here and there for our young moms and moms to be.  CAN YOU HELP?  Please call our office at 512-219-8322 if this is something you would do.

So....can you carry a tune?  Concert team audition time is here again.  We will be scheduling audition times for Wednesday evening, June 17th.  Call our office for more specifics.  Our team has already been asked to do several fall concerts so it's time to get busy!

Is your group looking for a summer project?  Do you have extra time now that it's summer that would allow you a couple of hours a week to do some "at home" volunteer work for BOL?  Our pace has significantly picked up and we just don't have enough arms and hands.  PLEASE call our office if this is something that God is leading you to do.

You can't know how many times I've heard in a fund raising class or even from a pastor the words, "You don't want to look like your ministry is struggling financially.  It turns people off and they don't want to give then."  Um. News Flash.  Everyone's struggling.  We have more girls calling us and needing immediate help and placement than EVER before.  I'm thinking if you're NOT doing well the women aren't calling.  I'm thinking if God wants you to call it quits the phone quiets and the staff has nothing to do......The need for us is greater now than it has been in 9 years. And this staff, though all of us now have second (some even 3rd) jobs refuses to give up.  They absolutely amaze me with their powerful commitment to serving Him by loving these broken mothers. That's a calling.

And so we continue.

I stood on the front porch of our office yesterday while one of our community birthmothers walking through adoption fell into my arms weeping.  She just needed someone to tell her God does love her, no matter how brutal and condemning the words from her own father had been the day before.  The words had stung and opened old wounds.  But she said through her tears, "You've been showing me a side of God as a Father that I've never known and I just wanted to hear it again."

Yeah. It's tough.  But I wouldn't be anywhere else.  God is so tender. And so, so good.
